Tobor the Jumbotron One of the last projects we did this year had to do with constructing a 3D model of anything out of wood, cardboard or paper. First, we learned about how to find the area, surface area, and volume of lots of different shapes and prisms. Once we got that down, we were assigned a few worksheets. Afterwards, when those were all completed we were asked to draw something that we would want to create in 3D in 2D and color it in. Then, we had to draw what shapes we were using in 3D. After we did that, we had a choice of planning and measuring how big we wanted to make it, or just going with the flow. When we were done building it we could decorate it (if time allowed). It was hard for me making a decision of what I wanted to create. I finally chose something, a robot, Tobor (Tobor because that is “robot backwards). I used a lot of cardboard for Tobor (that’s why he’s so huge). I had to be careful with making the arms and legs because I wanted to make them even. But, to decorate him and make his lovely self, I used paper. After I was finished building him, I measured his arms, legs, body, and head. I found the area and surface of the individual parts and of him all together.
