The first essay I wrote this year was on the novella The House On Mango Street By Sandra Cisneros. The House on Mango Street is about a young girl named Esperanza. Esperanza in the very beginning of this novella is very insecure about everything. Her name is not pretty like the other girls in her class, her home is not the ideal home, her feet are big. She thinks everything about her is an ugly flaw. On Mango Street, where she lives, there are many girls who influence her. Sally, Marin, Alicia, and even her own mother. They all have some effect on Esperanza, she sees all of their actions and she finds that she does not want to be like them because the get trapped by men. They get verbally, physically, and emotionally abused by the males figures they are involved with. Esperanza does not want to be that way but that is the only way out of Mango Street, she thinks. Esperanza slowly begins to gain confidence in herself. Soon the reader will find out that Esperanza is Sandra Cisneros. And that is her story.
Below is my essay about how Esperanza gradually starts finding her confidence titled "Esperanza Finds Her Confidence". Take a look and I hope you enjoy! (-;
